If you are studying childhood development and want to know what it is all about, then you’ll have to do a little bit of reading, no – I take that back, you’ll need to do a lot of reading. Why you ask? Well, because there is indeed, a whole lot to the subject. For instance, maybe you didn’t know but how the mother or caregiver handles a new born through their first 18-months can affect the actual structure of the forming brain. Seriously, it’s real and there is lots of studies to verify this.
Perhaps, it makes sense for you to read some of Dr. Allen N Schore’s works, as they are considered classics by neuro-scientists, as well as psychologists and psycho-analysts. There are two books that he wrote that I completely recommend for anyone doing research or studying this subject or considering a career in the field of childhood development. These books are:
“Affect Regulation and the Origin of the Self: The Neurobiology of Emotional Development ” by Allan N. Schore – 1994
“Affect Dysregulation and Disorders of Self” by Allen Schore – 2003
